A fascinating route retraces the history of a people who left an indelible mark on the history of the city, representing the link between the classical and medieval worlds. The visit begins in the section that houses the funerary objects found in the area, illustrating the origins and transformations of Lombard customs up to the eighth century. It continues with a visit to the Basilica of San Salvatore, a treasure trove of stuccoes, frescoes and spirituality, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2011. The route ends in the Oratory of Santa Maria in Solario, which housed the monastery’s immense treasure of relics, liturgical furnishings and sacred vestments, in front of the Cross of Desiderius, a magnificent example of reused glyptics, with its 212 gems.
