The route includes a visit to the Benedictine monastic complex of San Salvatore – Santa Giulia, founded in 753 AD by the last Lombard king Desiderius and a place of historical importance that has been stratified by memories over the centuries: from the perfectly preserved Roman Domus dell’Ortaglia to the Basilica of San Salvatore, a UNESCO heritage site, and from the Oratory of Santa Maria in Solario which houses the exquisite Cross of Desiderius, to the Renaissance Coro delle Monache. We then proceed to explore Brescia’s old town by walking through its main squares.
