The Exhibition

An initiative promoted by:
Municipality of Brescia and Fondazione Brescia Musei

In collaboration with:
Paci Contemporary (Brescia-Porto Cervo, IT)

At CAVALLERIZZA – Center for Italian Photography, from June 13 to September 7, 2025, as part of Archivi, the 8th edition of the Brescia Photo Festival, the Municipality of Brescia and CAVALLERIZZA – Center for Italian Photography, in collaboration with Paci Contemporary (Brescia-Porto Cervo, IT), present a solo exhibition by Sandy Skoglund.

Sandy Skoglund, one of the leading figures in Staged Photography, is famous for creating surreal settings in which objects, architecture, and figures are carefully orchestrated under her meticulous direction. The shot of each representation is just the final gesture of a process that often takes several months for its careful and precise realization. Sandy Skoglund personally constructs all the components of that dreamlike world, made of dreams and magic, of fiction and reality.

The exhibition features around seventy large and medium-format photographs, ranging from early works such as American Vacation Motel Cabins (1974) and Reflections in a Mobile Home (1977) to her most famous staged photography works from the 1990s, up to her most recent piece, Winter (2008).

CAVALLERIZZA

The space aims to be a cultural hub available to the entire community, particularly the younger generations, where exhibitions, photography workshops, and cultural activities can be organized, focused on the enhancement and promotion of photographic art, with a specific emphasis on Italian photography.

The “Antonio Amaduzzi” library, one of the most important collections in Italy entirely dedicated to photographic publishing, with over 3,000 books, catalogs, and series that tell the story, paths, and key figures of this expressive form, will also be made available and accessible in the building on Via Cairoli.

The building will remain open to the public six days a week, thus allowing access to a historic and valuable property, which has recently undergone a significant restoration intervention.
