Art and Culture
Itinerary
After visiting the exhibition at the Complesso di Santa Giulia in Brescia, you can follow up your experience with a tour that will give you the opportunity to discover wonderful Renaissance churches, do outdoor activities and try new gastronomic experiences.
The Ladies’ Room– Salvadego Palace
Located in the residence of Girolamo Martinengo and Eleonora Gonzaga, it is an elegant example of Renaissance architecture, decorated with frescoes by the famous artist Moretto (Alessandro Bonvicino) in honor of the wedding between the two nobles. This space was dedicated to socializing and the daily activities of the women of the family, reflecting the prestige and cultural patronage of the Martinengo and Gonzaga families.
The exhibition itinerary The Renaissance in Brescia will feature portraits of Girolamo Martinengo (c. 1540) and Eleonora Gonzaga (c. 1540- 1545), painted by Moretto on loan from the Lechi Museum in Montichiari and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

Church of St. John the Evangelist
Located in Vicolo S. Giovanni, a short distance from Corso Mameli, it is one of the oldest churches in the historic center of Brescia. Rebuilt over the centuries, it owes its present appearance to the renovation carried out in the 17th century by the Luganese architect Gerolamo Quadrio.

Diocesan Museum
The Diocesan Museum of Brescia collects and preserves a wide range of sacred art works from the territory of the diocese. The collection ranges from medieval to contemporary art, with a special focus on religious works. Continuing the tour at the exhibition The Renaissance in Brescia, several works by Moretto can be counted, including the “Madonna and Child Jesus in Glory, St. Francis, St. Michael the Archangel and a Donor” and the “Christ Carrying the Cross.”
