Event

On the 80th anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism (1945-2025) Fondazione Brescia Musei proposes the exhibition of some objects, preserved in the civic collections, dense with stratified memories.
These traces of material culture bring into focus different aspects of a history that constitutes the foundation of our democracy.

The exhibition

On the 80th anniversary of the Liberation from Nazi-Fascism (1945-2025) Fondazione Brescia Musei presents, within the last section of the visit itinerary of the Museo del Risorgimento entitled ‘Inheritance’, a selection of objects from the civic collections related to the events that are the foundation of our democracy. The flag of the 122nd Garibaldi Brigade, loaned by the Micheletti Foundation and already part of the permanent exhibition, will be placed in dialogue with some weapons used by partisans during the Resistance: a Variara machine gun, produced in clandestinity mainly in the Val D’Ossola area, and a Liberty pistol, produced in the United States in stamped sheet metal to speed up manufacture and designed to be distributed to both European and Asian partisans – which is why, to make it easier to understand how to use the weapon, the instructions for use were drawn by the famous cartoonist Walt Disney. Also on display will be an M38 model helmet used by the Partisan Police battalion, which settled in the Great Mile following the Liberation in 1945. Lastly, the sketch of the monument L’ala della libertà (The wing of freedom) by Quinto Ghermandi, winner of the competition announced by the Municipality to commemorate the Resistance in public space and placed in the gardens of Corso Magenta, will make it possible to document the policies implemented for the construction of the Resistance memory after the Second World War through monumentalism.
