The dossier is dedicated to the temporary exhibition Andrea Mantegna. Deposition, part of the Fondazione Brescia Musei’s PTM programme.

The temporary exhibition Andrea Mantegna. Deposition is part of the PTM Andata e Ritorno programme, which sees Fondazione Brescia Musei transforming the “departures” linked to loan requests into “arrivals” of guest works: an opportunity to welcome masterpieces into the rooms of the Pinacoteca that dialogue with the permanent collection, offering new points of view and opportunities for comparison.

The arrival of the most precious sheet from the civic collection of drawings in fact coincides with the loan of St. George and the Dragon, an iconic work from our collections and also dated around 1460, which will be a guest at the 20th International Art Exhibition in Illegio (Udine) in the coming months:

The exhibition of Mantegna’s drawing is an exceptional occasion, since to date, according to bibliographic and archive research, the drawing has never been exhibited in Brescia. It is a work that has represented Brescia’s collections throughout the world, including New York, London, and Paris, and in Italy it has been called upon to participate in the most important exhibitions that have been dedicated to Andrea Mantegna in recent decades, such as the Turin and Verona exhibitions.

The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Brescia, Fondazione Brescia Musei, Alleanza Cultura.

The booklet is available in digital format, both in Italian and English.
