From 16 March to 12 May 2024, as part of Testimoni, the 7th edition of the Brescia Photo Festival, Mo.Ca. – Centro per le Nuove Culture welcomes Inside the cinema, the personal exhibition of Chiara Samugheo (1935-2022), an artist who revolutionised celebrity photography with her innovative approach, giving life to the cinema reportage.
The exhibition, curated by Mauro Raffini, shows how Chiara Samugheo always focused her attention exclusively on the celebrities who contributed to making cinema one of the most popular and beloved forms of expression. Her fame quickly became global, so much so that she was called upon to collaborate with leading film, fashion and lifestyle magazines, including Cinema Nuovo, Epoca, Stern, Vogue, Paris Match, Life and Vanity Fair.
Her feminine gaze contributed significantly to the sexual liberation movement that characterised the 1960s, and her lack of forethought, from the synthesis of the ‘posed’ photo and the snapshot captured on the fly, led her to create highly regarded photo shoots.
