The exhibition

Curated by: Sandra Raffini

Inevitable is the reference, looking at the photographs in Masnà. Vite sospese tra centro e periferia (Lives suspended between centre and periphery), to the film I bambini ci guardano (Children watching us) by Vittorio De Sica (1943) with the screenplay by Cesare Zavattini. Memories of a cinema of bygone days.

The photographs exhibited at Ma.Co. F – Centro della Fotografia Italiana as part of Testimoni, the 7th edition of the Brescia Photo Festival, take us back to the years between 1969 and 1979: crucial and full of revolutionary enthusiasm, the conquest of fundamental rights, the ‘strategy of tension’ and the tragic season of terrorism.

Mauro Raffini went through that period as a young photographer, as sensitive to the demonstrations as to the living conditions of a new working class. Within this process was the inevitable, and at times poignant, presence of children: difficult lives and almost always on the margins, growing up in the social housing suburbs of Turin.
