From 8 March to 28 July 2024, as part of Testimoni, the 7th edition of the Brescia Photo Festival, the Museo di Santa Giulia is hosting an exhibition commemorating, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Piazza della Loggia massacre of 28 May 1974, in which eight people lost their lives.

The project developed by Maurizio Galimberti takes inspiration from original photographs by Pietro Gino Barbieri, Silvano Cinelli, Renato Corsini and Eugenio Ferrari provided by the Casa della Memoria Archive, the Silvano Cinelli Historical Archive and the Corsini/Ferrari Archive and is one of the events of the 7th edition of the Brescia Photo Festival, promoted by the Municipality of Brescia and the Brescia Musei Foundation, in collaboration with the Ma.Co.f – Centre of Italian Photography, this year declined around the title Witnesses, a term that underlines the ability of photographers to document the present by favouring the reading of history through the story told by images.

Starting with the photographs taken on the day of the massacre, and also including some images of posters, wall graffiti, the reportage of funerals and children’s drawings, Galimberti has created a new, powerful reading.

The historical and documentary value of these original images has been subjected to a process of deconstruction and recomposition, typical of Galimberti’s most characteristic technical approach.

For reasons of conservation of the museum’s works, the temperature in the rooms is around 20°C.
Visitors are therefore advised to bring an item of clothing to cover themselves during the visit.
